Netflix Original Series Hemlock Grove Leaves Service

One of the first Netflix original series, Hemlock GroveHe will leave the streaming service in October. Netflix’s latest newsletter announcing content changes for October contains a single line indicating that Hemlock Grove will leave Netflix on October 22. It’s a casual attraction and is soon making some significant waves with Netflix viewers and industry analysts alike, as it represents a significant change in Netflix’s content strategy.

It has been observed that the current broadcast wars between studios have taken a new turn in 2022. As corporate entities continue to shift (Discover Warner Brothers) and completely renew strategies (Disney), there have been cases of some original series starting to appear pulled. Netflix’s follow-through of this trend is somewhat surprising in that the company has made evergreen content obscuring the main focus of its streaming library, all the time. So having a great original series like this is a thing.

Hemlock Grove is a horror-thriller series written by Brian McGreevy (based on his novel) and produced by Hostel Director Eli Roth. The series launched on Netflix in April of 2013 on Netflix, and was one of the first three original series to hit Netflix that year (House of Cards and Orange is the New Black were the others). The show also helped Netflix break into the prestigious lane occupied by the likes of HBO; Hemlock Grove was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards after the first season (“Great Original Title Music,” “Great Special Visual Effects”), with Netflix winning two Emmys for House of Cards. On top of that, Hemlock Grove’s superhero world got a cult following before hashtags and social media provided a larger platform for shows that are generating quite a buzz. Hemlock Grove ran three seasons before ending in October 2015.

Hemlock Grove also helped introduce a new group of young actors and help some established actors open the path to broadcasting television as a legitimate career path. The most notable breakthrough was Bill Skarsgård, whom the show’s disturbing screen character helped give him the role of Pennywise the Clown in Warner Bros. IT Movies. Skarsgård is now a horror icon in his own right, and is currently starring in the hit horror film Barbarian.

You can read a summary of Hemlock Grove less. Better watch it now before it shuts down on Netflix on October 22nd.
